Bio

Daniel has been characterised with a genetic condition called albinism, where there is a congenital absence of pigmentation (melanin) in eyes, skin and hair. This has caused him to suffer from severe visual impairment (> 80%) and serious problems with sunlight. However, it did not prevent him from participating in a variety of sports as a child. In particular, he enjoyed swimming.  At the age of 15 he started competition training and competed in his first National Championships.

The following year was his first International Championship (European), the aquatic spiral continued with numerous championships, successes, medals, smiles, failures, tears, sweat, frustration, work and studies.

One of his biggest highlights was the two Olympic medals won in Barcelona 1992 and Athens 2004 as well as participating in five games, without forgetting World, European, Opens, International and National competitions.

After the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games he decided to continue with the multidisciplinary sports practice, without the intention of competing, until he discovered the world of triathlon. Swimming, cycling and running became his new passion.

Since then, he has gone on to have much success in para-triathlon events, most recently three podiums in 2017.
