Best of 2014: Team England on top in Glasgow
27 December, 2014 | español
Before the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Team England’s medal count sat at a paltry zero. But with Jodie Stimpson, Vicky Holland, and the Brownlee brothers on the roster this year, that record was blown apart making their performances some of the best moments of 2014.
Jodie Stimpson kickstarted the action for her fellow English teammates by not only winning the first triathlon medal but also by sprinting to the first gold of the entire Commonwealth Games.
In a tight race between a handful of athletes, Vicky Holland followed Stimpson onto the podium in third place behind Canada’s Kirsten Sweetland.

Hours later, the Brownlee brothers absolutely destroyed the competition with a massive break early on the bike. While Alistair and younger brother Jonathan rode together, it was clear Alistair was intent on adding Commonwealth gold to his medal haul, which he did with an astounding run performance.
Later in the games, the four joined to put a fiery relay together to garner gold as Mixed Relay debuted on the Commonwealth Games programme.
