With 80 days to go until the Edmonton Grand Final, event organizers have begun the countdown to the pinnacle race of the World Triathlon Series. Whether you’ve already clenched your spot at the Championships or are still grinding out the miles to punch your ticket to Canada, take a glimpse at some of the activities waiting for you upon arrival.
2014 Grand Final organizers have now announced plans for Edmonton’s downtown square to become “triathlon central” during the days leading up to the 2014 TransCanada Corp. World Triathlon Grand Final. Organizers hosted media in a mini triathlon challenge in Churchill Square that also included a classical string trio playing instruments.
“Churchill Square is the place to be for Edmontonians, visitors and athletes leading up the Grand Final races,” says 2014 Triathlon Edmonton General Manager and President Sheila O’Kelly. “We’re excited that Capital Power is able to sponsor the live site to help get people into the spirit of the event and help welcome the world to our city.”
“Capital Power is delighted to be part of this world class event. We’re proud of our city and we’re thrilled to have an opportunity to showcase Edmonton to the world,” says Brian Vaasjo, CEO, Capital Power.
From Aug. 25-28, from 11 am – 7 pm, Churchill Square will be filled with entertainment, Aboriginal cultural displays, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra performances, a beer garden and a Tri Experience Endless Pools zone for people to try their hand at a mini triathlon, among other festivities. The square will be known as the “Capital Power Triathlon Live Site.”
Capital Power (TSX: CPX) is a growth-oriented North American power producer headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta. The company develops, acquires, operates and optimizes power generation from a variety of energy sources.
