Dr Debbie Alexander (RSA) coopted to the ITU Paratriathlon Committee

ITU’s Executive Board has appointed Dr Debbie Alexander to the ITU Paratriathlon Committee. Former President of the Triathlon South Africa, Alexander has specialised in psychology as a representative on the SASCOC Medical and Anti-doping Committee, where she is responsible for the psychology services for South African Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
Dr Debbie Alexander said:
“Most of my work has been with Paralympic athletes. It is the work that I enjoy and like to be involved in because I believe I can make a difference. I look forward to being able to contribute to the work of the Paratriathlon Committee and to Paratriathlon in Africa.”
Alexander joins the rest of the Paratriathlon Committee chaired by Grant Darby (CAN) and includes Jon Beeson (USA), Cornelio Rodrigues Serrano (ECU), Michael Ziv (ISR), Renato Bertrandi (ITA), and Dierk Brandewinder (GER).
Coopted members include Marguerite Christophers (NZL), Head of Classification, Ms Jin Wen (CHN), newly appointed Chair of the ASTC Paratriathlon Commission and Mark Barfield (GBR), Chair of the ETU Paratriathlon Commission.
ITU’s Paratriathlon bid for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games is in the final stretch. The IPC will decide which sports will be added to the Paralympic programme at the IPC Governing Board meeting in Guangzhou, China on 11th December.
