The men left it all down to the finish chute in a flurry of activity that saw Mario Mola (ESP) return to the top of the Columbia Threadneedle Rankings as he won the Wasser Hamburg World Triathlon. Jacob Birtwhistle (AUS) burst onto the scene with his first World Triathlon Series medal with silver, while Mola’s compatriot Fernando Alarza took home bronze.
Taking on one of the most popular and anticipated World Triathlon Series race of the year, USA’s Katie Zaferes dominated the sprint distance course and claimed her first-career victory at the 2016 Hamburg Wasser World Triathlon.

Il campione olimpico in carica, il britannico Alistair Brownlee, bissa la vittoria di Leeds e vince anche la tappa scandinava delle WTS a Stoccolma, battendo il fratello Jonny e il francese Pierre Le Corre. Ottime prove per gli italiani in gara, Davide Uccellari delle Fiamme Azzurre conclude 16°, la sua migliore prestazione nelle WTS, mentre Gregory Barnaby conclude 19°, al suo esordio in questa manifestazione. Executing yet another phenomenal run, Great Britain’s Alistair Brownlee recaptured the title at the 2016 Vattenfall World Triathlon Stockholm. First earning the crown in 2013, his winning performance meant that the Stockholm gold would return back to the Brownlee name as it has now been claimed by Alistair or younger brother Jonathan Brownlee four out of the five years.
After an impressive performance that saw her race on her own in both the bike and run legs, Bermuda’s Flora Duffy was able to finally capture her first-ever World Triathlon Series title at the 2016 Vattenfall World Triathlon Stockholm. Her debut WTS gold also guaranteed her spot as the current leader in the Columbia Threadneedle rankings.
