Spanish para triathlete Susana Rodriguez may have lost her eyesight as a result of albinism, but that hasn’t stopped her from consistently challenging herself further in life. In 2020 she put her medical career on hold to focus on her on goal of winning a medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
She had finished fifth when the sport made its Paralympic debut at Rio 2016, before going on to win back-to-back world titles in 2018 and 2019.
In the lead up to Tokyo 2020, TIME magazine featured Susana on the cover and just weeks later she powered to the Paralympic gold she had dreamed of.
